Khelo India Volleyball
Dear Volleyball Enthusiasts,
We are ecstatic and pleased to share with you that the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has introduced a Talent Identification and Development (TID) program , under Khelo India Scheme with a vision and an objective of winning 20 Medals in 2028 Olympics. About 1,000 athletes (all priority sport disciplines) will be selected and supported annually under this scheme. Athletes will be identified by a High Power Committee for over a period of about eight years.
The good news is that Volleyball too has been chosen as one of the disciplines under the scheme. Through this scheme we have the mandate to select 50 volleyball players (girls and boys ) each year for the next eight years. Govt. shall ensure Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) for the identified players. Financial support will be provided towards training/coaching, diet, consumables& equipment, sports nutrition support, sports science support, lodging, boarding, foreign exposure for competition/training, medical assistance, psychological assistance, insurance and other such benefits.
In order to identify and screen the prospective talented players, Govt. has constituted Talent Screening Committee (TSC) and Talent Identification and Development Committee (TIDC). As per the govt. guidelines approx. 20 players may be screened from Khelo India School Games and the remaining players may be identified/ screened from National championship and through other talent scouting system decided by TSC and TIDC.
The first positive development is that, TSC and TIDC have agreed to collectively work as a single unit to identify the best talent from across the country. The first decision taken by Team Volleyball is to take help of all coaches, former players from across the country to identify the talent at the grass-root level, so that not a single talent is missed out from the radar of Khelo India volleyball . To make this practically happen, a single window email id kheloindiavolleyball@gmail.com has been created. Every former/ current volleyball player, coach, referee, administrator, volleyball enthusiast, promoter can directly recommend talented player/players whom they think can represent India in the long run, preferably athletes born on or after 01.0.1.2001, as per the enclosed format may be recommended .
The shortlisted players who fulfill the height and age criteria, will be called for next level of screening, which will be either regional wise or centrally, which is to be decided after receiving the recommendation. The final screening will be held at the end of March 2018. Medical test (MRI/ bone, etc) will be conducted to ascertain the exact age of the players. Only after a thorugh medical examination the players will be absorbed in the scheme. For the year 2018-19, shortlisted players will be placed in two different centres across India (separate for boys and girls). In the first year, the centres will have qualified coaches , trainers, indoor training hall, international training equipment’s, medical and physiotherapy facilities etc.
From the second year onwards(2019), a high performance state of the art centre will be identified where the selected players above 17 years of age will be trained. These players will also be sent for foreign exposure trips to gain international experience. Further, “Volleyball Incubation centres ” will be set up at different states of the country to nurture new and younger players. These Incubation centres will act as a grooming centre for the young players who will be the future of our sport .
In order to make this program/scheme successful we look forward to and request the help, support and guidance from all volleyball enthusiast of our country especially from all the coaches, former and current players. Their decades of experience in the field of volleyball will be very vital for success of this program.
A single platform will be developed where player’s details, selection, training and their progress will be monitored and uploaded for more transparence.
Let’s together pray and work for better Volleyball.
